Dictation of Memory
This series of miniature paintings explores the role of objects in fostering nostalgia. The instinct to protect cherished objects is nothing new in our consumerist age. ‘Memory objects’ are conceptualized as belongings that elicit deliberate or involuntary memories of one’s culture and history. For me, these objects represent Pakistani culture in relation to its colonial past.

I am a Junior studying film, animation, and writing. Originally from Karachi, Pakistan. I was not allowed to study the arts at home. My artistic practice started in my senior year of high school in the US, and it quickly became a means for survival. My work ranges from nostalgic short films to experimental animation to Warhol inspired paintings. With my work, I hope to inspire a new wave of Pakistani female filmmakers.
