Banana Leaf Weaves
This was an experimental project that explores new materials within the textile design industry. My intention was to trace this back to my Vietnamese Culture by using banana leaves, as this has already been used to replace plastic in South-East Asia. I wanted to combine this methodology with my own knowledge of woven structures.
I also centred this around our brief on designing for a destination in London which was the cemetery in Tower Hamlets. My designs of the 3D forms are floating water urns, and the intention was to “give back to nature”. The leaves were also dyed in beetroot, and this was my way of investigating alternative methods of working, that could be more environmentally friendly.
